A Brief History of Verilux Graphic artist Howard Scott was searching for relief from his Iritis (inflammation of the iris) when he discovered what was to become the foundation of Verilux technology. Scott's eyes were aggravated by poor lighting conditions and he often painted at night under a bare light bulb, straining his eyes. Verilux, Latin for True Light, is the result of his passionate pursuit of lighting that delivers the benefits of daylight when and where it is needed. Initially, Scott developed the Trucolite a fixture which featured six colored tubes (bulbs) that, when combined, replicated 'natural' light. The Trucolite quickly became the standard in the gemological industry for diamond grading which requires a precise assessment of clarity and color. With the advent of phosphor technology, used in televisions, the results Scott was striving for could be achieved in a single tube, making affordable healthy home lighting available for the first time. Scott experimented with rare earth phosphors and developed a true color light phosphor formula - Trucolite - that is used in Verilux products today. Verilux remains committed to the development of breakthrough lighting technology, applying innovation to continually meet the changing needs of today's indoor environments. |
