The History of Unicare, Inc.
UniCare, Inc. based in Prattville, AL has been in existence since 1968 and currently provides various types of pharmacy services to over 7,000 long term care residents and additional home care patients.
In August 1994, we were acquired by Omnicare, Inc., the largest independent provider of long term care pharmacy services in the nation. Omnicare currently serves over 427,000 residents through companies like UniCare. This association has enabled UniCare to maintain its specialized business philosophies while benefiting from Omnicare’s buying power, research and development and important clinical information. In January 1996, UniCare purchased Pharmacy Care Systems, along term care provider in Birmingham. This merger opened up some new options for UniCare and gave us the opportunity to serve more customers in the Birmingham-metro area. Most recently, we opened a long term care pharmacy in Jackson, Mississippi to serve the state of Mississippi.
