Tacala LLC is the largest operator of Taco Bell restaurants in the nation, with over 130 restaurants in the southeastern United States. HISTORY Founders of Tacala LLC, Richard Reese and Don Ghareeb, have extensive experience in the restaurant business through a variety of executive positions with several major food-service operations. Don Ghareeb cut his teeth on a number of family-owned and national chains beginning in his youth, while Dick Reese rose through various financial positions, including working for one of the "Big Eight" accounting firms. Joining forces in 1979, they acquired a Birmingham, Alabama hamburger business and expanded it into a regional chain with more than 100 units. After selling that business, Dick & Don originally became involved with Taco Bell Corp. through a series of real-estate deals. But Dick & Don sensed significant growth opportunities existed with the chain. Seeing the potential in the leading provider of Mexican food in the QSR segment and a well-established brand with international presence, Dick & Don began with three Taco Bell restaurants in Birmingham, Alabama in 1989. Through a series of strategic acquisitions from both Taco Bell Corp. and other franchisees, as well as developing new restaurants, Tacala LLC grew to the largest Taco Bell franchisee in the nation with over 130 restaurants in six states. The core markets for Tacala restaurants are Birmingham, AL; Macon, Columbus, and Albany, GA; and Tri-Cities, Knoxville, and Chattanooga, TN. Tacala owns the majority of restaurant locations in each of these markets, thus setting the local promotional and market development agenda. Tacala is actively developing new restaurants and reviewing acquisition opportunities, so career growth potential within the company is excellent.
