Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation, is a world leader in the design and manufacture of advanced helicopters for commercial, industrial and military uses. Sikorsky helicopters occupy a prominent international position in the intermediate to heavy range of 11,700 lb (5,300 kg.) to 73,500 lb (33,000 kg.) gross weight. They are used by all five branches of the United States armed forces, along with military services and commercial operators in more than 40 nations. Based in Stratford, Connecticut, USA, Sikorsky has outlying facilities in other Connecticut locations, as well as in Florida and Alabama. Revenues in 2000 were $1.8 billion. The Sikorsky and Boeing Helicopters team is developing the U.S. Army's new armed reconnaissance helicopter, the RAH-66 COMANCHE. The program won a $3.1 billion Engineering and Manufacturing Development contract in the spring of 2000. The team will manufacture and deliver five new Comanche helicopters for EMD testing, and deliver another eight new aircraft to the Army for operational test and evaluation. Two prototypes are already in flight test at West Palm Beach, Fla. The first U.S. Army Comanche unit will be operationally equipped in 2006. Sikorsky is leading an international team to produce the S-92 helicopter. The S-92 program has achieved significant milestones and built a growing potential customer base since first flight in December 1998. Leading aerospace companies in Japan, the People's Republic of China, Taiwan, Brazil and Spain are members of the S-92 team. Cougar Helicopter, an offshore oil operator based in eastern Canada, has reserved the first production S-92 helicopters. In addition, the S-92 is being offered in international military competitions. A research, development, test and evaluation (RDT&E) contract with the U.S. Army in 2001 launched the Sikorsky UH-60M BLACK HAWK helicopter upgrade program. The program ultimately will involve the modernization of as many as 1,200 aircraft during the next 25 years. Sikorsky delivered a total of 70 aircraft in 2000. Core U.S. military production programs are based on the H-60 aircraft, the U.S. Army BLACK HAWK and the SEAHAWK series for the U.S. Navy. H-60 derivative aircraft are fielded for a multiplicity of missions with other branches of the U.S. military. Sikorsky's CH-53E and MH-53E heavy-lift aircraft are flown by the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps to transport personnel and equipment and in anti-mine warfare missions. Customers in 2000 received eight new commercial S-76 aircraft. The S-76C+ is the latest model in production. S-76 variants can be found around the world serving airline, executive transport, offshore oil, search and rescue and emergency medical service missions. Worldwide, S-70 BLACK HAWK helicopter variants are serving, or are on order, with 25 governments -- Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Brazil, Brunei, Chile, Colombia, Egypt, Greece, Hong Kong, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Malaysia, Mexico, Morocco, People's Republic of China, the Philippines, Republic of Korea, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand and Turkey. Sikorsky is established in the international market with licensing agreements with Westland in the United Kingdom, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) in Japan and Korean Air. Sikorsky and Korean Air are co-producing BLACK HAWK helicopters for the Republic of Korea. In Japan, MHI is licensed to produce SEAHAWK aircraft and BLACK HAWK derivatives.
