The opportunities to learn and grow at Invitrogen are virtually unlimited. And, most importantly, a career at Invitrogen is a career with a higher purpose: improving the human condition.
Invitrogen's more than 25,000 products and services can be found in nearly every major laboratory in the world, including those of pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, as well as academic and government research institutions. In fact, many of the greatest medical discoveries of the last two decades were made using Invitrogen products, including the discovery of the AIDS virus, advancements in cancer treatment, and the development of tools to assist in stem cell research. Founded in 1987, Invitrogen has more than 70 locations worldwide. The company's 4,800+ employees focus their efforts on developing and supporting breakthrough innovations in all the major areas of biological discovery - genomics, proteomics, bioinformatics, cell culture, and cell biology, among others. The realignment created new divisions under the traditional BioDiscovery and BioProduction business segments - Cell Culture Systems Division and BioDiscovery Division. Each division has dedicated manufacturing, research and development, and marketing functions, which are all supported by a global commercial team, featuring new technology sales specialist teams that provide scientific expertise in targeted areas of research. The new structure allows these teams to draw upon solutions to complex applications and workflows from across Invitrogen's entire product portfolio. The Cell Culture Systems Division includes the current Gibco products and services, as well as the company's customer-focused bioproduction process development initiative, PD Direct. The BioDiscovery Division focuses on nanotechnology, imaging and microscopy, cell separation and analysis, labeling and detection, and bead-based separations. This division also focuses on the company's antibody center of excellence, as well as key molecular biology and biomedical applications including cloning and protein expression, protein analysis, gene expression profiling, drug-discovery solutions, and other molecular biology essentials. The prominent industry brands Molecular Probes, Dynal, BioSource, and Quantum Dot fall under the BioDiscovery umbrella. These four companies were acquired by Invitrogen within recent years as were Caltag and Zymed, which are also part of the division.
