The University of Pittsburgh is a nonsectarian, coeducational, state-related, public research university. It is internationally renowned as a leading center of learning and research in the arts, sciences, humanities, professions, and health sciences and is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities, a by-invitation-only organization of 62 preeminent doctorate-granting research institutions in the United States and Canada.
