Traditional instruction is complemented by extensive hands-on educational opportunities. MMA also offers outreach programs in distance and continuing education.
A special feature of student life at MMA is the college's mix of uniformed midshipmen and students who follow a traditional college lifestyle. Participation in the college’s uniformed Regiment of Midshipmen, a student-run leadership training model designed to provide management and leadership training and experience is a federal requirement for students seeking an unlimited license in the U.S. Merchant Marine but is available to all students.
MMA maintains a fleet of 60 training, research, and pleasure vessels, including the T.S. State of Maine and the schooner Bowdoin, official vessel of the state of Maine. For further information, please visit our web site at www.mainemaritime.edu
