Each of May's divisions operates independently and the corporate office provides support and direction as follows:
- Reports operating results and provides analysis for May's senior management. The key areas supplying this information are merchandise information systems, planning and reporting, operations and expense analysis, and corporate reporting.
- Provides financial and technical support and direction. Functions providing support include merchandise, consumer and market research; human resources; capital, tax, legal, and insurance; store design and construction; real estate; and treasury.
- Assists in the daily operations of systems common to all divisions. Two data centers provide information systems services. The Customer Information Center handles customer calls for more than 400 stores. Two credit service centers assist customers nationwide.
