Who We Are
Roche U.S. Pharmaceuticals
We are the U.S. prescription drug unit of the global healthcare company, the Roche Group, founded in 1896 in Basel, Switzerland. Known simply as Roche, the company is a leading innovator of medicines and services that enhance people's health, well-being and quality of life. Roche businesses include Pharmaceuticals and Diagnostics. The Roche Group operates in more than 60 countries, employing more than 65,000 people and selling its products in over 150 countries.

Our North American pharmaceuticals headquarters is just 12 miles west of New York City. Located on a 127-acre, university-like campus, the site employs some 3,000 people who work in the discovery, development, manufacturing and marketing of prescription medicines. Areas of key research conducted in Nutley include the search for treatments for metabolic diseases and cancer. The site makes a key antibiotic as well as medicines for cancer, obesity and organ transplantation. In addition to the people on the Nutley campus, Roche has a large, award-winning nationwide field sales force.

Leading Products
In the U.S., Roche markets medicines for dermatology, infectious diseases, metabolic diseases, neurology and virology. In most of the product markets in which Roche competes, our company's drugs rank among the top in their class.

Innovative Research
Roche invests almost $2 billion a year in research and development at research centers in Germany, Switzerland and the United States. In addition to owning majority interests in Gene tech in the U.S. and Japan's Chugai, Roche complements in-house research efforts with a broad range of strategic alliances aimed at providing value to Roche and its alliance partners. Roche completed 25 deals with small- to medium-sized biotech companies in 2002, prompting a leading consulting firm to rate Roche among the top companies in this field. Right now, our R&D organization is working on well over 100 research projects with new molecular entities in seven key therapeutic areas. And Roche's joint pharmaceutical and diagnostic research is establishing the foundation for advances that promise to accelerate disease detection and treatment.

Hoffmann-La Roche is an equal opportunity employer fully committed to workplace diversity.
