History
The year was 1927 and the little town of Batesville, Indiana, USA needed a hospital. Mary Mitchell, the grandmother of William A. (Bill) Hillenbrand, undertook the project. Bill, in search of a business opportunity, joined with his grandmother to help make the dream of a community hospital come true. To staff the new hospital, Mary and Bill turned to a family friend, Father Charles B. Moulinier, founder and president of the Catholic Hospital Association. During his frequent visits to Batesville, Father Moulinier had admired the fine oak furniture being crafted by the local artisans. He thought its beauty stood in harsh contrast to the cold metal furniture of hospital patient rooms. This was the moment of inspiration for Bill Hillenbrand. He realized he could offer hospitals wooden furniture that would create a warmer, more comfortable look, that could make patients feel more secure, more at home. Bill had found his business opportunity and his goal, "To bring the home into the hospital."

From its inception, Hill-Rom has been innovative in sales, marketing and product development. Because we listened to our customers, we have created a long line of industry "firsts" that forever changed the way patients are cared for. It began as early as 1933 when Hill-Rom introduced the first adjustable-crank, double pedestal overbed table. Its design, as well as all successive product designs, was based on three principals: providing for the patient's comfort and well being...lightening the workload of nursing by promoting patient self help...lowering overall costs for the hospitals.

Today, Hill-Rom is a recognized leader in the worldwide healthcare community. We provide the best products and stand behind them with a full array of service, support and people who care. Ranging throughout the healthcare continuum, we meet the needs of caregivers with products including state-of-the-art beds, therapy surfaces, room furniture, modular wall systems, staff/patient communication systems, stretchers, surgical columns and lighting. Everyday, Hill-Rom people are helping our customers achieve successful clinical and financial solutions. Of course today's healthcare environment is very different than it was in 1929 but the company that Bill Hillenbrand founded has remained true to his vision. Hill-Rom continues to introduce revolutionary products and listen to our customers.
