TODAY

         H-E-B has established itself as one of the largest
regional food retailers in the United States. It is still
owned and operated by the H. E. Butt family. Since
1971, when Charles Butt became company
President, the number of HEB Partners has grown
over tenfold from 4,500 to over 56,000. H-E-B operates over 300 retail stores in 150 Texas communities with expansions into Mexico.

Store operations are supported by manufacturing, distribution, and transportation facilities. A large distribution center in San Antonio is supplemented by warehouses in Corpus Christi, San Marcos, and Houston. A fleet of more than 1,000 tractor-trailers operating from terminals in San Antonio, Wharton, Waco, Corpus Christi, Houston, and Harlingen delivers merchandise to stores daily. The company also operates a milk plant, meat plant, ice cream plant, pastry bakery, chip plant, and photo-processing lab in San Antonio, plus a bread, tortilla, and bun bakery in Corpus Christi. The administrative staff at the Arsenal HQ contributes expertise in the areas of accounting, advertising, architecture, construction, data processing, human resources, procurement, and real estate development.
