Harris has more than 3,000 engineers employed in the development of advanced communications systems worldwide. Our Government Communications Systems Division significantly leverages our R&D work where engineers and scientists create electronics for mission-critical communication systems used by the government's defense and space systems business. The government annually funds approximately $400 million of R&D by Harris to develop these systems. The government is now encouraging its contractors-through an agreement called Dual-Use Technology-to develop systems that not only strengthen defense and other government agencies, but also advance American commercial interests in the world economy. Harris R&D also is augmented by contract engineering in the U.S., Canada, China, India, and Russia; by research projects at leading technical universities; and by diversified and distributed R&D throughout the world.
