Federal Home Loan Bank of CincinnatiThe Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati is one of twelve District Banks in the Federal Home Loan Bank System, which was created by Congress in 1932. Our principal mission is to help house America by providing member institutions with an alternative, competitive source of housing finance. Member financial institutions are eligible to participate in a variety of customized services, affordable housing programs, and community-oriented lending. The District Banks are privately owned and operated corporations sponsored by the government, but not owned by the government. The District Banks do not rely on a single tax dollar to support operations. Each District Bank maintains its own management, staff and board of directors. The District Banks raise funds in the capital markets through the issuance of low-cost, triple-A rated debt. The Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati, the Fifth Federal Home Loan Bank District serves financial institutions in Kentucky, Ohio and Tennessee. In order to access our credit services, a financial institution must first be approved for membership in the Bank. Upon approval for membership, the institution must purchase stock in the Bank and then can utilize the Bank's services. Thrift institutions, commercial banks, credit unions and insurance companies are eligible for membership and services. The Bank makes loans called "advances" and provides other banking services to these institutions to assist them in managing their financial operations and building stronger communities throughout our district.
