Echelon Corporation is a leading supplier of control network products and services that address the needs of the building, industrial, transportation, home, and other markets. The company’s family of over 80 products and services are based on the LonWorks platform for control networking and are at the forefront of the trend away from closed, centralized control systems. These products and services allow manufacturers and integrators to quickly develop, test, debug and deploy their products. The company is a founding member and sponsor of the LonMark Interoperability Association - an organization that promotes LonMark products, recommends design guidelines for interoperable LonWorks based products, and verifies that products meet the Association's guidelines for interoperability.

Looking into the future, Cisco Systems and Echelon are jointly developing a standard interface protocol for accessing building, industrial, and home control devices through the Internet or other IP(Internet Protocol)-based networks such as corporate intranets. Echelon is a member of a number of important new industry initiatives, including Sun’s Jini technology and Microsoft’s Universal Plug ‘n Play (UPNP). By connecting control and data networks, businesses will be able to lower costs and increase efficiency by creating applications that access information and devices on both data and control networks. Moving data seamlessly between data networks and control networks will be essential as we enter the 21st century.
