How it all began
In 1958 the first Cost Plus store opened when a San Francisco businessman parlayed his passion for travel into an import business by selling a shipload of hand-woven wicker from crates on the wharf. The furniture sold out within a few days, but the idea lived on. Soon the Company's store at Fisherman's Wharf became a destination for both tourists and local residents.

Our story
Since its opening over four decades ago, Cost Plus World Market has grown to over 200 stores. As the Company has expanded into new markets, the store name has been shortened to World Market. In 1996, the Company went public and trades on the NASDAQ National Market under the symbol CPWM.

Our stores are filled with more than 10,000 one of a kind products from around the world. The Company's product categories have expanded to include: furniture, pillows, lamps, floor and window coverings, frames, baskets, garden, collectibles, tabletop and kitchen accessories, along with gourmet foods and wines.
