A Brief History:
Our name, CH2M HILL, is derived from the names of the founders of our company. In 1946, three former college classmates, Holly Cornell, James Howland, T. Burke Hayes, and their professor, Fred Merryfield formed an engineering firm in Oregon. The company eventually became known by an acronym comprising their initials: CH2M. In 1971, after a merger with Clair A. Hill and Associates, we became CH2M HILL. While the CH2M HILL of today differs considerably in size and capability from our early counterpart, we remain fundamentally unchanged. Our employee-owners retain the founders' original sense of entrepreneurial spirit, commitment to technical excellence, innovation and emphasis on client service.
