Headquartered in Chicago, the business unit operates 22 plants in 16 U.S. states, one in Brazil and one in Mexico, and has a work force of more than 2,500 people. The business unit's ongoing productivity and cost reduction efforts in recent years have focused on streamlining operations, and upgrading and consolidating facilities to increase efficiencies and profitability. Also, BCA has initiated a program of lean manufacturing principles and techniques to optimize its working environment. In addition to maximizing profitability of its U.S. operations, BCA is focusing on opportunities in markets with higher growth potential, such as Latin America. ANC is the second largest producer of beverage cans in the U.S.

Beverage Cans Europe (BCE)

The business unit's activities are carried out through Pechiney's and ANC's Nacanco subsidiary companies. Cost reduction and productivity improvement programs have generated increased efficiencies and enhanced customer responsiveness. ANC is the largest beverage can producer in Europe.

During 1999, BCA is launching a new Performance Management process, based on core competencies, designed to develop people and ultimately benefit the financial performance of the company. Technical Capabilities Set the Pace

Excellence in engineering and in can and end making requires precision, superior technical know-how and experience, hallmarks of our manufacturing, and product and process development. A Beverage Technical Center (BTEC) in Elk Grove Village, Ill. provides an efficient centralized resource to qualify new materials and containers for customers, and features the industry's only bi-metal pilot line. The company's innovative processes extend to lightweighting cans. The aluminum can has been lightweighted by 32% in the past 25 years, and downgauging efforts continue. Thanks to these efforts, ANC better manages costs while preserving natural resources.

With roots in can making dating to the nineteenth century, ANC's pursuit of innovative products and processes continues today. The company was one of the pioneers in the development and use of drawn and ironed (D&I) two-piece can making in the 1950's, and today, the company continues to respond to customers' efforts to differentiate their products. It was a key player in developing the shaped two-piece aluminum can and the embossed beverage can featuring graphics aligned with embossed indentation. In Europe, the business introduced customized, colored ends into the market that customers can use in marketing promotions.

Come see what we're all about, and perhaps be a part of an exciting new opportunity…
